Saps visit Clacton

On Saturday 25th August 2024, the Saps-at-Another-Seaside-Town (Clacton) enjoyed the wonderful Summer Seaside Variety Show. Our tent had a group booking and it was FREE for everyone who wished or wanted to go for the afternoon show.

Louise Murchison, Fred Karno’s great grand-daughter, joined us for the afternoon/evening. The historic and lovely West Cliff Theatre was the venue. It was a brilliant show with dancers, singers and the speciality acts were Ben Nickless, a very clever and amusing MC/Comedian and juggler Ian Marchant.

It was pouring with rain outside, but inside the theatre the performers filled our hearts with sunshine. Oh, and we made a lot of noise – no surprise there then!

Guess who?

Storm Huntley currently presents a morning show each weekday on Channel 5.  The first person she ever interviewed, ten years ago, was a Son of the Desert. Can you guess who? The answer is below.

Film night in Leeds

There will be a special screening on Saturday 21st September at 7.30 at the Cottage Road Cinema, Headingley, Leeds, LS6 4DD. Sons of the Desert will be the main feature. Accompanying shorts will be Two Tars (accompanied by Ben Hinchliffe on the organ), The Chimp and County Hospital.  All tickets are £10 each and can be booked via the website www.nm-cinemas.co.uk.

Owner Charles Morris says, "The Cottage Road cinema has been showing films continuously since 1912 and has just passed its 112th birthday. It has over 400 seats plus a licensed bar and is renowned for providing the true traditional cinema experience.

Our first  L & H night a year ago was a great success and we hope to build on that this year."
