 A True Love Story

The poor postman struggled up my path with a very heavy and well-packed parcel. It was the much anticipated 'L&H - A True Love Story'. Having only just browsed the 500 pages plus, there is only only one word to sum up my reaction. It is WOW. I will of course write a review at a later stage but at the moment I just want to say to Andreas and Michael... THANK YOU for compiling this giant adorable book. You have done the boys proud. I look forward to Volume 2 Thanks to everyone else who has helped in this production.

The time has come: the first copies of 'Laurel And Hardy: A True Love Story - The Pictorial History of Stan & Ollie: Their Life And Work' (Vol. 1) have been neatly packed and are now travelling the world... to the USA, Canada, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, England, Ireland, Italy, France, Sweden, England, Switzerland, Hawaii, the Netherlands, Spain, Greece... and even to Australia.

Which just goes to show how popular they were and still are all over the world!

John Robertson remembered

Lorna Robertson sends love and thanks to all who helped her with the passing of John. She says, “This has meant so much to me. My amazing husband and all the Sons had so much laughter and happiness. Thank you all for yesterday [John’s funeral]. It was just perfect to see you all.”

PayPal payments for The Perry Winkle

Thank you to everyone who supports The Perry Winkle. Your continued support is much appreciated.

Recently I have encountered a problem with PayPal. I have had two amounts of £15 to renew go straight into my account and there is no indication of who has sent it. My bank can not  help identify the sender.

So please help me. If you have renewed and I haven’t sent an e-mail thanking and confirming my receipt, can you contact me. If anyone renews in future by PayPal, please also send me an e-mail to confirm your payment.

In addition I am trying to contact Shelagh Lock. We met and chatted at the Laurel and HarDay and she must have taken a form to become a Stowaway. I received a PayPal payment afterwards but I do not have an address or e-mail contact. I did message on the PayPal response, but have not had any reply. Please contact me, Shelagh.

Beau Chumps Tent

At our October meeting, which went off splendidly last Wednesday in spite of the weathe, we focussed the screenings on Arthur Housman as his birthday falls in October and we saw Scram, The Live Ghost and The Fixer-Uppers.

The Laurel & Hardy Digest

I remember seeing it on Dad’s shelf for years, and indeed, he finished reading it on April 23, 2002. That was right after we got back from Los Angeles on our first trip to see the L&H landmarks, so I’m sure he was inspired to read your book after our trip.

Sadly it wasn’t until after he passed that I realized it was your very own book, because I would have SO loved telling him we became friends through our mutual dear friend Mike (Beau Chumps Sunderland).

Did you know?

Effects man Roy Seawright said, “Hal Roach was stubborn as a Missouri mule. Roach had been a truck driver and he ran the studio like he used to drive trucks – hell for leather.

"Once he decided on a course of action, no one or nothing could ever make him change his mind, come hell or high water. Roach was
from the old school. He figured that the man who paid the bills should be the one to call the shots.”
